The song Jana-gana-mana, composed originally in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore, was adopted in its Hindi version by the Constituent Assembly as the national anthem of India on 24 January 1950. It was first sung on 27 December 1911 at the Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress.

Tagore wrote the song on 11 December 1911. Next, day the Delhi durbar - or mass assembly when George V was proclaimed Emperor of India - was held. The song was first sung on 28 December 1911 at the Congress session in Kolkata.

On December 27, 1911, it was sung publicly for the first time on the second day of the annual conference of the Indian National Congress at Kolkata (then Calcutta). It was sung by Rabindranath Tagore himself.27-Dec-2021
